Roll up, roll up! What do we have here? A bird? A plane? An intricate circus themed extravaganza masterminded by the man, the magician, the Chilean house legend – Luciano? Hola Vagabundos!
Being a newcomer to the island and being here roughly a month, I’m still in that stage between finding my feet and comfortably settling into the way of life and my surroundings. One thing I know for certain is that I’m still completely left in awe about it all – the gift that keeps on giving. Some of the parties I have attended over the last few weeks have most certainly been the most outrageous by far, and it’s still only the beginning.
The iconic club night Vagabundos makes it’s return, and I heard it was one of the most successful and breakthrough parties to ever grace the white isle – residing previously at Pacha and Booom! – This year Luciano and his “travelling gang of music gypsies” take the wheel in the Terrace at Space every Sunday from June 7th through until September 27th. Unfortunately I wasn’t unable to make it to the opening party last week… but I made it just in time for the second innings.
Upon arrival I had to go for a little explore… I was at Space the night before for the Elrow party but I couldn’t remember much aha. The signature Vagabundos top hats were scattered throughout not only staff but patrons aswell. Firstly I discovered the huge trophy wall that was very impressive – especially being rated as one of the worlds top clubs over and over, leaving me rather intrigued as to what else was in store for the rest of the night. I gradually made my way around each room, first stopping in the main room to catch some of Heidi’s set. The room was very low lit with scattered spotlights across the room, setting the a much darker and mysterious atmosphere for a room of that size.
Not only some of the tunes she was playing were amazing, but also there was one thing that definitely stood out the most for me – her stage presence. The amount of positive energy vibing throughout the room had her dancing and throwing dance moves left right and center; all encapsulated by the vibrant sense of emotion evident by the look on her face – one for the books.
Shortly after I had a little adventure through the Sunset room that was more of a housier vibe, but along the way my eyes caught a few circus freaks bouncing throughout the crowd of people, I love the extent of effort venues on this island take when putting on a show – they really know how to turn it up.
It was time for the Terrace. Molly was just wrapping up the show and Martin Buttrich was bound to rip the place apart. The lighting design throughout the room was phenomenal, especially the red LED strips that lined the red velvet ceiling in the center of the room which clearly symbolized the top of a circus tent: add a jam packed room full of crazy punters and you’re left with nothing but magic. The full roll call of mayhem makers for the night included Luciano, Martin Buttrich and Molly in the Vagabundos Room, Carl Craig, Heidi and Jimmy Edgar in the Main Room representing Detroit Love – and last but not least, Marlowe, Andy Baxter, Jose Maria Ramon and Valentin Huedo in the Sunset Room.
Luciano presents the official lineup for the first season of Vagabundos at Space Ibiza comprising of over 60 artists including those many great talents from his label, from Sunday 7th of June through to the 27th of September. Detroit Love, Carl Craig’s musical endeavor taking control over the main room once a month paying respects and love for the iconic and historic scene of Detroit. Cadenza Music was formed in 2003 by Luciano and Quenum in Geneva, releasing a range of minimal techno and house with an organic and improvised feel – a space for music to grow, rise and blossom.

The Spanish word Vagabundo translates to a person without a home, a drifter, a gypsy and a wanderer of the streets. Likeminded people will be brought together from all over the world – all for the same reason: the love, and deep appreciation for the music and nothing but positive energy. I know I’ll definitely be back to check out what’s in store for the rest of the season, I know you it’s definitely one for your bucket list.
“Vagabundos is our life, the World our home.
A dream come true, a walk through space and time,
On streets with no ends and highways of Love.
We travel, we wander, we roam and we linger.
A journey of the soul, of the mind and body.
No boundaries, no stone left unturned.
Every smile makes us shine, Music is our language.
The people our treasures.
We sail through never ending skies,
the stars shine with the brightest lights.
The universe is our brother, the night our bride.
We are blessed with all the people we meet,
they give us energy,
they keep us humble and alive.
We are here to share our feelings,
we go from place to place,
bringing joy and happiness along the way.
Vagabundos they name us,
Vagabundos they call us,
Vagabundos we are!”
